Background Memo: Dr. Robert Redfield, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Dr. Robert Redfield was appointed Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) by Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Alex Azar on March 21, 2018. Dr. Redfield, a pioneering HIV/AIDS researcher and physician, worked at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research/Walter Reed Army Medical Center for nearly 20 years in various roles, including founding director of the Department of Retroviral Research, Military HIV Research Program.
