Ilisa Paul Discusses the Role of the Health Professional in Health Policy

Ilisa Halpern Paul, president of the District Policy GroupTM, was a guest lecturer at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health’s Executive Management program on February 15, 2020. Ilisa spoke before a group of 30 students working toward Master of Public Health or Master of Health Administration degrees in the Health Policy & Management program. The audience included physicians, advanced practice nurses, dentists, health administrators and other health professionals.

Ilisa’s lecture, “Health Policy and the Role of Health Professionals,” covered the federal legislative process, the federal regulatory process, and the ways in which health professionals can influence the issues and outcomes associated with federal health policymaking. Ilisa provided a number of case studies regarding federal authorizing policy, the federal appropriations process, and the implementation process agencies undertake for new programs and new federal requirements. Ilisa and other professionals at the District Policy Group regularly present to audiences of health professionals on the federal policymaking and advocacy processes and provide health policy updates and outlooks.
