Julie Allen Talks Medicare Reform in Modern Healthcare

In light of Rep. Paul Ryan’s recent induction as the new chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, his longtime hope of reforming Medicare has reinvigorated potential. That said, there are many who suggest that despite the Republican control over both chambers, the new Senate majority may not be willing to tackle such a divisive issue in the session leading up to what is sure to be another contentious election season. The latest version of Ryan’s plan would give seniors the option to receive subsidies to purchase private insurance instead of enrolling in the public program. As Julie Scott Allen, Vice President at the District Policy Group, noted in a Modern Healthcare article on the matter, “I anticipate that those issues will be prominent again, at least in the House discussion. The question I have is whether you have the appetite for that in the Senate?”
