The District Policy Group Offers Insight Into 2017 and the 115th Congress

November 30, 2016

With the 2016 election officially in the rearview mirror, the District Policy Group is looking forward to 2017 and the 115th Congress. Both the House of Representatives and Senate released tentative calendars recently (the House can be viewed here and the Senate here) and Congressional leadership remained true to their words—the 115th Congress is going to be around a lot more than its predecessor. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told his Members that he increased the legislative calendar by three weeks in order to provide “ample time to enact our conservative agenda.” With important votes coming up in health care, taxes, infrastructure, and more, expectations are high for the new Congress. And given one-party control of the White House and Congress, all eyes are on the President-elect for indications of his first order of business after his inauguration on January 20, 2017.
