Introducing Phil on the Hill: An Insider’s View Into Capitol Hill

Tuesday, May 30, 2017

Welcome to Phil on the Hill, the District Policy Group’s new platform for our very own, former Congressman Dr. Phil Gingrey, to share his thoughts and perspectives on current events and public policy.

For the last two years, I have had the honor of supporting Phil in his work as a Senior Advisor to our team and the rest of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP. Honestly, in the beginning I was apprehensive about working for someone with such an impressive background. As a medical doctor, state legislator, and U.S. Congressman, his intellect and determination are self-evident. However, over time I learned that he has not only cultivated an immensely impressive resume, but maintained his commitments to his family, his faith and his native Georgia through it all.

Phil’s enthusiasm for his work is constantly on display. Unfailingly, he greets me each day with a big smile, a clap on the back and a “How’s it goin’, Zach,” in his friendly Georgian drawl. How a septuagenarian (sorry, boss!) with 13 grandchildren, who splits his time between Washington, D.C., and Marietta, Georgia, can keep this up is not immediately clear. But here’s what I can tell you – he has a finger on the pulse of the federal government, an open mind and is eager to share his insights (trust me, it’s easy to get stuck in his office when he’s on a roll).

For those reasons, I expect his new venture into blogging will be successful. His comprehensive policy knowledge and thoughtful anecdotes are something I have learned from nearly every day for the past two years. This platform will simply allow him to share those insights with a broader audience. I hope you follow along.
