Social Media

As early adopters of social media, we have been helping clients leverage new media to advance their federal policy and advocacy efforts. We work with clients to audit their current social media plans and design and implement new strategies, or build on an existing plan, with achievable goals to determine success, such as increased web traffic, greater volunteer engagement, or more targeted outreach to specific policymakers.

We work with clients to identify ways to incorporate social media into existing or new advocacy campaigns—determining which social media platforms are best for each campaign or, if appropriate, how to integrate the platforms and leverage each to its respective strengths for the campaign (e.g., Twibbon). We support clients in capitalizing on social media during Capitol Hill Advocacy Days by developing Twitter hashtags for the day; including policymakers’ Twitter handles on the advocates' schedules; giving advocates a “Twitter 101” before they head to the Hill; creating an echo chamber by tweeting from our team and individual Twitter handles about client meetings on the Hill; and providing sample thank-you tweets for advocates to send to elected officials.

The District Policy Group also has coordinated Virtual Lobby Days, either in lieu of or as a complement to Washington fly-ins. Organizations and advocates may not always have the time, ability, or resources to travel to Washington, D.C., but this should not stop advocates from engaging their Members of Congress and having their voices heard. These Virtual Lobby Days, during which advocates write to their Members of Congress via email, Twitter, or Facebook or call their elected officials’ offices, allow more advocates to be involved and the message to be amplified.

We believe in the power and importance of social media and practice what we preach. You can find the District Policy Group’s social media and web presence on Twitter @DistrictPolicy and www.districtpolicygroup.com.
